GAITHERSBURG, MD-February 28, 2005 - Sodexho USA, the nation's leading provider of food and facilities management, today announced it will begin offering the country's first clinical dietetic internship program, with an emphasis in pediatrics in an inpatient hospital setting as approved by the American Dietetic Association (ADA). As an innovator in food and nutrition services the program reaffirms Sodexho's commitment to education, training and development in its pursuit to improve the quality of daily life for customers, patients and guests.
“As one of the largest private employers of registered dietitians in the country, our company is proud to be leading the charge for a new area in the advancement of training for dietitians,” said Gayanne Wolset, MS, RD, CDE, LDN, director of Sodexho's dietetic internship in the New Jersey/Philadelphia Metro area. “With the increasing need for pediatric dietitians, Sodexho can now provide students the opportunity to pursue this avenue of specialty education.”
Candidates for the Internship must have an undergraduate degree in nutrition or a related field and have completed course work in dietetics as required by the credentialing agency of the ADA. The internship curriculum has been specially modified for the pediatric setting and offers the unique opportunity to concentrate on the specialized dietary needs of pediatric patients and to gain first-hand experience in how diet and nutrition can impact recovery. Interns will also have the opportunity to work directly with some of the most knowledgeable and experienced pediatric dietitians in the healthcare industry.
Sodexho USA's New Jersey/Philadelphia intern program will immediately begin accepting applications to fill two pediatric intern positions annually. Interns will be placed at one of three participating hospitals - Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia or AI Dupont Children's Hospital in Delaware. Interns will complete the initial phase of their internship in the adult setting but will then move into the pediatric environment to complete the advance clinical nutrition and food service training.
Upon completion of the internship, students will have the knowledge and experience to begin an entry level position in pediatric nutrition. Interested students can find more information at the website: www.dieteticintern.com.
