GAITHERSBURG, MD, June 16, 2005 - Sodexho Inc., (NYSE-SDX) the leading provider of food and facilities management services in the US, Canada and Mexico, announced today that Michael Norris, former president of Loews Cineplex Entertainment US, has been named a Sodexho, Inc. Group President, with oversight over the company's Corporate Services and Vending Divisions. The two operating divisions comprise annual revenues of more than $1.25 billion and serve more than 1,800 client locations nationwide, including on-site restaurants, food courts, catering services, vending facilities and convenience stores. In addition, Norris' organization will have responsibility for the company's office refreshment business. He will report directly to Sodexho, Inc. President and CEO Richard Macedonia.
Norris succeeds Sodexho Corporate Services President Thomas Mulligan, who announced his retirement from the company last year after 31 years of service.
Before joining Sodexho, Norris spent nearly a decade with Loews Cineplex Entertainment US, the third largest exhibitor of movies in the world with annual revenues in excess of $1 billion. Joining the company as senior vice president for operations and concession in 1995, he was named president in 2001, with responsibilities including marketing, brand positioning, operations, real estate, concessions, design and construction, strategic planning, training and film acquisitions. During his tenure, Loews' concession sales increased by 179% per guest and Norris repositioned the brand to become the #1 theater chain in the top markets of the world.
“Michael Norris brings to Sodexho a proven track record in building retail sales, world-class marketing experience and a history of successfully managing organizations within the entertainment and food service industries,” said Macedonia in announcing the appointment. “We are very pleased that Michael is joining the Sodexho team and look forward to having him put those skills to work in growing sales and profitability within our Corporate Services and Vending organizations.”
Norris gained experience in the restaurant and hospitality industry both domestically and internationally, serving as president and COO from 1994 to 1995 of WYWY PAC-AM Food Concepts PTE Ltd., in Singapore, the master franchise for Brinker International in Asia, where he managed more than $100 million in capital investments.
From 1976 to 1993, he held various positions at General Mills Restaurants, Inc., rising to become director of operations for the $345 million operating unit that included the Red Lobster and Olive Garden restaurants throughout the US and Canada.
A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Norris will office out of Sodexho's U.S. headquarters, located in Gaithersburg, MD.
